Who is your ideal customer?

The work you do as an astrologer can be seen as a high form of service.  When you think about it like that, the income you receive is a flow of energy between yourself as an astrologer and the people you have been put here on this earth to serve.  This has two implications for you as a professional astrologer.  The first is your primary focus becomes about the work and not the money, the second is you want to work with people who appreciate and strengthen your gift.  This is what provides meaning, and makes it work for you in the long run.

So the next question is about who is your ideal customer?  Who do you want to serve?

In practical (or marketing) terms, it’s about your audience.  You could say, well it’s anyone who visits my website, but that would mean you are really just in it for the money, which is not really going to sustain your spirit in the long run.  Here are some of the questions you might consider when working out who your ideal audience is:

Question 1: Who do you prefer to work for?

When you did astrology readings for friends, who were the most appealing to work for?  Which readings fed your soul and curiosity?  Which ones made you feel tired afterwards?

Question 2: How would you describe your ideal customer?

Picture one or two people who represent your ‘ideal customer.’  How would you describe them? What are their qualities, their needs and desires?  Why are they the audience for you?

Question 3: What can you do to help them?

What is going on for them, that would prompt them to seek your help? What can you offer them?  (think about what makes you unique) How do you want them to feel when they work with you? What transformation would you like to see in their lives?

ACTIVITY

Duration: 20 minutes

Spend about 20 minutes meditating on these questions, and jot down your thoughts in your journal. They’ll be useful later when we get to building your Business Plan.  If you haven’t done readings for other people, you may want to do some additional research before moving on… perhaps try some readings with people to get some real-world experience.  Journal as you go so you don’t forget how those experiences made you feel.

Once you understand who your ideal audience is, it makes writing content so much easier. By completing this exercise, you’ll also have a picture of who you’re marketing to, what their needs are, and how your unique gift can help them.
