Testing your content creation skills

Compared to some other form of metaphysical work, Astrology is a business where you need to think about generating content over anything else.  Tarot is about interpreting cards, sometimes quite intuitively.  Reiki is about the practice and theory of activating healing in the body.  These are all quite different to astrology where you need to produce content to explain what is happening Astrologically.

The role of an Astrologer is to interpret the world around them in a way that helps people make sense of it.  The insights an astrologer can bring through horoscopes, blog posts, videos and podcasts can turn these insights into a powerful tool for personal growth allowing someone to continue on a path of self-discovery.

Essential to establishing yourself as a guide in this space is by building trust – and in a content-driven arena, this is done by investing your time sharing your skills and expertise with others, in a way that showcases your sense of personal style.

What you write, and how you communicate will depend on the role you intend to play.  Will you be a guide, a teacher, a therapist or a confidante?  It’s worth knowing the way you want to operate and the role you will play with your audience before you start writing content.  Your role will shape the type of content you need to create.

You may want to consider the following practical aspects of content generation as well, so you can count the cost of what it means to build a successful astrology content business.

Question 1: What is the content format that is the easiest for you?

Do you like being in front of a camera, are you more introverted and prefer writing instead?  Do you like talking to people instead?  Practically how good are you at editing video, creating visuals, editing audio, or writing?

Answering this question will hopefully guide you towards a medium that works best for expressing yourself.

Question 2: How much time can you commit to creating each piece of content?

Is this a side hustle, or will you be devoting yourself full time?  What experience do you have at building a consistent library of content?

Knowing the answers to these questions will start to prepare you for how much content you can regularly produce on an ongoing basis.

Question 3: How long does it take you to research and create a quality post?

How regularly can you produce content for your audience? How long is your list of ideas for blog posts that you feel confident to prepare for your audiences.

Knowing this will tell you how sustainable your effort in producing your content is.  You could also assume that the more you do this, the more efficient you get.

Question 4: Who else might you collaborate with?

How tight are your relationships with other spiritual workers?   What content collaboration relationships have you established already, and what could be developed?

Answering this question may help you understand how your content can be supplemented with guest posts or series from other workers in your field.  This can provide relief and downtime allowing you to catch up on your own work, as well as providing valuable cross exposure for your work, on other websites.

ACTIVITY:

Duration: 2+ hours (estimated)

Using your journal, jot down your answers for these four points, then write a list of 10 content ideas for astrology posts, videos or podcasts. Pick the most exciting one. Set yourself a challenge for creating it, and time how long it takes you to produce.
